Screening of tomato landraces for drought tolerance based on growth and chlorophyll fluorescence analyses

Abstract To investigate the effects of water withholding on 17 tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum L.) landraces collected from different climatic zones Iran and two commercial hybrids, polyphasic OJIP fluorescence transient, relative content (RWC), electrolyte leakage (EL) vegetative growth parameters were analyzed. Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT) for all studied drought factor index (DFI) based performance absorption basis (PI abs ) used screening plants their tolerance to condition. Result showed that compared control plants, parameters, RWC, PI , maximal variable (F M /F 0 ), maximum quantum efficiency PSII V yield electron transport (ΦE flux per reaction center (RC) (ET /RC) decreased, whereas, EL, energy dissipation (ΦD specific fluxes RC (ABS/RC) dissipated (DI /RC), which are closely related incidence photoinhibition increased in exposed withholding. DMRT DFI results clearly categorized into three groups (tolerant, moderately sensitive sensitive). Tolerant less change most measured landraces. We found adapted dry climates had a higher stress. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed F ΦE ΦD ABS/RC, ET /RC DI detection impact stress plants. In conclusion, eight have potential identify injury seedlings.
